Tough as Iron, Smooth as Silk!

Berkley has added a new type of line for a fisherman to use. New IronSilk is a “Reinforced Polymer Matrix” created at the state of the art Berkley laboratories by polymer chemists. This new technology can be visualized as steel rebar used to reinforce concrete. IronSilk is not like conventional monofilament or super lines. It’s tough as iron, smooth as silk.

This new technology produces a line that has:

• 2 to 3 times more abrasion-resistant than other leading tough lines
• Greater resistance to nicks, cuts and line wear than conventional mono
• Extremely smooth line surface
• Handles great on casting and spinning reels
• Low “stretch” – around 20 % ultimate elongation

I spooled up my spinning and casting reel with the arrival of this new line. The line is very sensitive. I could feel every piece of structure the Texas rigged worm touched. On a Carolina rig, the low “stretch” helped with my hook set. I found the line indistinguishable from monofilament. This is a great compromise between Spiderwire and Trilene monofilament. This line will find a place on my reels.

I used a 14# test line in my test. It handled several styles of presentations and baits. From wacky worms to top water lures, the line provided accurate cast, strong knots, and solid hook sets. IronSilk is available in low visibility green and solar mint for around $12 for a 330-yard spool.
